Dune Restoration
Dune restoration usually involves re-establishing native plants and installing fencing to anchor sand in place in order to help the dunes grow. Beach Raker is proud to be an active role in preserving and restoring these crucial habitats.
Throughout the year our field personnel maintain these landscapes by consciously cleaning up the dune lines litter, moving sand up the beach and separating the habitat to ensure a safe and preserved distance from beach visitor activities.
Turtle Nesting Season Begins March 1st!!!
Turtle Nesting Season starts March 1st in Dade County. In Broward and Palm Beach Counties the season also starts March 1st.
Turtle Monitors survey the beach each morning just after sunrise to look for new turtle nests. If they find a nest they will mark the area with stakes so that beachgoers know to avoid the area. Turtle Nesting season impacts beach cleaning activities in two major ways;
Mechanical Beach Cleaning cannot commence until after the 'all clear' has been given by the turtle Monitors, this could be as late as 9 am, depending on the number of nests that the monitors need to mark as they survey the beach.
In Broward and Palm Beach Counties, Mechanical Beach Cleaning cannot be performed above the last high tide line., i.e., only on the wet sand area, not the dry sand where the turtles nest.

Seaweed Management
As environmental awareness increases throughout the United States, Florida residents are becoming more concerned with the preservation and protection of our coastal beach habitats. Year after year, the populations in our coastal communities grow causing our once untouched beaches to become polluted with litter left every day by beach visitors and boaters. Without proper mechanical beach cleaning, trash and debris accumulate and ultimately destroy the pristine beauty of our local Florida beaches.
Beach Sanitization & Grooming
Beach Raker is proud to be one of the only companies capable of providing sanitization and sand sifting. While management of the seaweed is critical to maintaining one’s beach, the upper portions, dry sand areas, is what is utilized most by beachgoers.

Beach Raker has over 30 years of experience in cleaning Florida’s environmentally sensitive beaches. Cities, Towns, Condominiums, Resorts and private homes throughout Florida have come to depend on our beach maintenance services like: seaweed management, beach grooming, sand sifting, sand excavation, sand dune management, turtle nest monitoring and garbage removal.
Turtle Nest Monitoring Support
We typically have thousands of Sea Turtle nests on the beaches we clean during the Turtle Nesting Season. This creates an additional level of complexity that our operators have to deal with each day as they perform their work.
Sea turtle nesting runs annually March through October and is a very exciting and busy time at the park. Although the season doesn't officially start until March 1, park staff has already been on the beach since the beginning of February looking for any signs of a nesting leatherback sea turtle. Every morning during this time the dedicated park rangers and volunteers survey the beach to track and record the number of turtles that come ashore overnight.
Beach Nourishment Services
Beach Raker is just one of a handful of companies that provides beach nourishment services in the state of Florida. Beach nourishment is the process of adding sand or sediment onto or directly adjacent to an eroding beach. This "soft structural" response allows sand to shift and move with waves and currents.
Dune Planting & Management
Dunes provide the first line of defense against coastal storms. Native dune plants have adapted well to the harsh environment in which they live, they have to be able to withstand salt spray, heat, burial by sand and very dry conditions. The root systems of dune plants play a vital role in dune stabilization.
Native salt-resistant vegetation is essential to the beach and dune system as it both accumulates and stabilizes sand. Vegetation traps wind blown sand which collects around the plant and builds up the dune – a process known as “accretion”.
As the plants become buried, new roots develop on the recently buried stems while new stems emerge from the sand. A dense stand of sea oats and sea grapes can significantly minimize erosion during high tides and storms.
